Our Philosophy

If you're looking to bring out the best in you, you've found the right place. At Old Warrior Horse Kung Fu Academy, we believe that the warrior spirit is about transforming your body and mind into a place of physical and mental strength together with a winning mindset, both at the Martial Arts School and in life. Through practice and hard work, one gains better health and peace of mind.

What We Teach

Our academy focuses in on the internal arts, including:

  • Qi Gong - Ancient breathing and stretching techniques that formed the foundation of numerous Chinese martial arts. These exercises improve overall physical health and have been linked to marked improvements in numerous conditions such as diabetes, depression, anxiety, etc.

  • Taiji Quan - (often called T'ai Chi) Taiji Quan is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for self-defense and health. Known for its slow, intentional movements, Taiji has practitioners worldwide and is particularly popular as a form of gentle exercise and moving meditation, with benefits to mental and physical health

  • Xing Yi Quan - Known as "form and will" boxing, Xing Yi Quan is one of the three internal "sister" arts.  It is more straight forward and powerful looking than Taiji Quan and Ba Gua Zhang.  Practice of this art develops muscular strength and endurance and enhances internal power (qi). This art is based on the Daoist theory of the five elements and twelve animals. Basic Xing Yi is required before starting the study of Ba Gua Zhang.

  • Ba Gua Zhang  - The eight trigrams palm is based on the Daoist philosophy of the I ching (book of changes).  The form taught here is a variation of the eight mother form of Ba Gua that was developed by Ching Yi Kung Fu Association grand master, Dr. Her Yue Wong, called Xian tian (pre-heaven) Ba Gua Zhang.  This variation of Ba Gua takes into consideration all 64 changes of the I Ching. Ba Gua Zhang is the most difficult of the internal arts to learn and so a foundation of Tai Ji Quan and Xing Yi Quan are required before study can begin.

  • Shaolin - This is a broad category of forms that have the Shaolin temple as their historical source.  It is a sampling of many external styles with the intent being to expose the student to some of the variety that exists. The forms that are taught here come from two sources:  The selected forms from the Ching Yi Kung Fu association, and those forms learned at the Shaolin temple by Shifu and Ching Yi Kung Fu Director Kraig Stephens.
